DECA

(EXECS: Yaseen, Shivanni, Abhinav, Sheiry, and Kanishk)

Teamwork, dedication, innovative and leadership are only four words that describe DECA, an association of marketing and management students, and one of Brampton Centennial's largest clubs. Each year, DECA plays an active role in not only the academic environment but the community as well. Past events that DECA members have organized and participated in include Easter-O-Gram fundraisers, DECA Match, DECA Challenge, the MS Walk, AIDS Walk, Free Enterprise week (which involved a meeting with the mayor of Brampton and DECA members), just to name a few.

Members also participate in DECA's highlight event, provincial competitions, in February of each year. In preparation for competitions, training is provided to build skills and confidence. At competitions, members from all DECA chapters in Ontario compete individually or in teams for written and oral events by demonstrating their proficiency and knowledge of the business world. Each member or team is given a realistic business situation that they are required to handle professionally and creatively. If successful, DECA members then compete internationally. Since Brampton Centennial DECA members are known for their excellence, previous members have travelled to places such as Salt Lake City, Orlando, Florida and Nashville, Tennessee to compete for the international title.

DECA also strives to achieve three main goals each month: to complete at least one voluntary event within the school or community, to organize at least one school fundraiser and to hold one social event which allows DECA members to socialize while building teamwork and co-operation. Overall, DECA members gain leadership abilities, business knowledge, management skills and communication and creativity skills while having fun and demonstrating their passion of the entrepreneurial world at the same time!
